it would be nice if the actual game had a tenth of the lived in feeling of this trailer.

I think the trailer was cool, but given the theme of the story with the worm cult coming back, I felt like this music belonged more in love island than a deadly daedric cult coming back. Visuals are solid!

I want to add that I agree w/ @Gadamlub14_ESO - having the zones look and feel this populated IN GAME would be a HUGE plus for immersion. Great job though outside of that :)

That was my first reaction, too.

But later, I found myself whistling the tune (I'm a whistler rather than a hummer), and it dawned on my that they may have chosen the song because of the phrase "there is a season," which connects to the game switching to a season pass, as well as "the Season of the Worm Cult." I guess that's pretty obvious, but for some reason I didn't make that connection when I saw the video. And it's an old hit from the '60s, so it's got nostalgia appeal in addition to being an earworm.

I think this ad shows me that I'd definitely not in the target demographic for ZoS.

I'm wondering when it's finally going to dawn on more people. I mean, the ending of their other recent trailer basically said, "Play alone or with friends". Years ago Rich said in a few podcasts, that they changed the design and direction of the game with One Tamriel to be more 'Skyrim with friends' because that's what the majority wanted. Then people still wonder who the demographic is that they added hybridization and now subclassing for? I mean, it's pretty obvious IMO, and has been for years. I guess I'm just one of those who refuse to remain in denial of the overwhelming evidence.

Yes, it was clear to me that they wanted to create a connection between the video scenes and their Season Pass, but somehow the rhythm doesn't fit for me. In my opinion they did a much better job with the video: "You belong here"
But in the end it's a matter of taste.

I agree that the song doesn't really fit the theme well, other than having "Season" in the title. But it's probably less bad than other alternatives...

Seasons in the Sun (Terry Jacks): Sooooo depressing. If you're not familiar with it, try to remain that way.
Time of the Season (The Zombies): "What's your name? Who's your daddy? Is he rich like me?" OK, maybe not this one.
Season of the Witch (Donovan): Great title, but lyrically, more of a bad acid trip.

So, is there any "Season" song that would be a good fit for ESO? Yeah, I think "Four Seasons in One Day" (Crowded House) works pretty well, though it was never one of their big hits. (Googling that is left as an exercise for the reader.)

This barely feels like Elder Scrolls to me, and what is this music choice?

Can't imagine I actually miss the chapter cinematics with their humanised mer.

I know a few, but they only appeal to the demography of evil wizards and necromancers, I'm afraid. Not a lot of mass appeal.

But who knows what we'll see next. Title of this thread says this is the "Summer Games Fest" trailer, maybe there will be more to come? (I mean, I'm aware that's the name of the showcase or whatever it was, but maybe they also used that as a theme for the video because of that?)

I think this might actually be the worst trailer you've produced so far for this game. And it's up against some fierce competition with the incoherent music videos by Trivium and... who were the other guys you got for High Isle...? Oh, well, it doesn't matter, ZOS forgot who they were as well.

Genuinely, I'm struggling to think of what about this trailer would appeal to get new players into the game. Because it 100% is not the incredibly clunky animations on display.

All in all, everything about this event you're hyping up is putting a bad taste in my mouth. It's one thing for a random event to be a one off. Something with actual story content being deleted once the arbitrary real world time period is over? Despite the fact that ZOS is adamant that no time passes in ESO, that we're still in 2E 582 for every single bit of story? There's a reason I dumped Destiny 2 as hard as I did. ESO should not be trying to replicate that.

My main concern is that the trailer misrepresents a lot of things in the game. Some things simply can't happen, like two non-combat pets interacting, or someone picking up their pet and stroking it. Others are mementoes and emotes carefully timed to look like actual activities. The volleyball is an obvious one - sure you can toss a ball about and then throw it towards your friends...but then it disappears in mid-air and other players can't interact with it in any way. Anyone who buys the game expecting to actually do the type of activities here is going to be disappointed. At most you could pre-plan and carefully time a series of emotes to create the illusion for other people that you're doing these things, but that's all.

Thing is I'm a casual player and I've been increasingly getting the same feeling that I'm not the type of player customer ZOS wants.

In my case it's mostly about time. ESO is not my only game, let alone my only hobby so I can't (and don't want to) give it as much time as ZOS seems to require from us. Now they're doing things like one-time only events where if you want to play the story in full you can only do it on their schedule. Even if I buy the content pass and play the event when it's live all my other characters who get to that point in the story later on will miss out, because by then ZOS expect me to have moved on to the next new thing.

I agree that changes like subclassing are aimed at the type of players who are far more interested in being able to customise their character than worrying about blance between classes and the inner workings of game mechanics, but overall it feels like they're aiming for something like Ultima Online used to be (maybe still is) where it was a very open, player-driven sandbox game but it was so player driven that the only practical way to play it was to commit to a fixed schedule of spending several hours in-game, multiple days a week playing with the same group, otherwise you'd miss out on too much.

I quit UO (wow, over 20 years now!) because I couldn't and didn't want to commit to that kind of schedule, and for a long time I thought MMOs weren't for me. I thought games like ESO were an alternative, something I could play at my own pace in my own time, but that's gradually being taken away.

The tagline of "you belong here" combine with the content pass, golden pursuits demanding your attention and so on, feels a lot like "please listen to what we say, not what we do".

The Elder Scrolls franchise has some of the best music in any video games ever, but instead of drawing from that vast catalog they ruin this trailer with lame hippie boomer crap?

If khajiit wasn't already here he certainly wouldn't show up based on -that-, it is known.

At the very least they could have had the 'Tamriel Symphony Orchestra and Chorus' play an appropriate arrangement of the songs, perhaps segueing into an actual Elder Scrolls theme.

They could have made some funny and fitting song similar to the games bard ones, but guess that was too much work or creativity.

With all due respect, to me this is the worst advertisement made for ESO since the game’s release. I didn’t feel represented by it, and I don’t know anyone in my social circle who did either. The animations outright lie about the kind of interaction we have with our pets and give the impression that there’s way more interaction with the environment than there actually is (the kind of interaction we do see in games like Sea of Thieves).

Not to mention the abnormal number of streamers who simply decided to skip the ESO trailer altogether or openly expressed how cringe it felt to them.

I'd love to see someone recreate this trailer in the actual game: In towns with people standing idly overlapped on each other as their pets are staring at a wall, people dueling and flashing explosions everywhere, NPCs you're talking to (who have nothing valuable to say in the first place) getting Blade of Woe'd mid dialogue. It is funny though that even with all of the tailoring, the trailer couldn't escape the jank animations.

Also, this trailer is extremely disappointing. I really don't understand what the goal was here other than trying to seem MMO-ish. It showcased lies and events that is not actually the standard in the game, as others have already pointed out (and no, this is not to be flagged as a "conspiracy theory" for pointing out real ZOS falsehoods).

But even more to the point, are they wanting players to buy the new "season"/chapter to simply lull about at some summer solstice resort while the worm cult and daedra are invading it? How is playing with a pet (that can't even be played with in game) supposed to say anything about the new season... Or even the game itself? It is very badly designed.

I actually loved this silly trailer. Felt wholesome. Yeah, it is a bit concerning that it shows gameplay that is not actual, which I think is kind of deceptive advertising, but then again, cinematics are not realistic either, so...it's a wash.

But it made me feel good watching it, so as far as gaming goes, it's a win for me. I watched it 3x! <3

IMO, it came across more as a "The Sims - ESO Edition".

But perhaps that was intentional. Because the trailer is eerily similar to many Sims trailers.

Not anything new really, even in game it often feels like characters don't take these big threats serious. Like Blackwood was atrocious with how chipper everyone was (Looking at you Eveli) despite all the deaths, horrors, and impending doom. Like there even was mortal people almost casually hanging out in the Deadlands. Not to mention how often the idiot ball was thrown around.

Every content feels like this now.
