Eidetic Memory: Bug List

Gabriel_H

✭✭✭✭✭
@ZOS I am aware that there is a thread already for Eidetic Memory, but a lot of that thread is people looking for help finding books. At this point the thread is 146 pages long. At that size I do not see how that is helpful for you or us to know which books are bugged or unavailable. So I kindly ask that you view this as not a duplicate thread but rather a way for players to state which books they cannot access. I plan on updating this opening post as other players leave comments about which books they cannot get. This will give you a comprehensive list in one easy to view post about what books are a problem. For some of us, not being able to complete Eidetic Memory collection is an irritating as a broken quest. Please look at making this a priority.

Players: Please do not use this thread as a "where is book xyz?", there is already a thread for that: eidetic-memory-bugs-comments-help. Instead if you cannot access a book, please leave a comment stating which category it is, the books name, and what is causing the lack of access.

Just to note: I'm not adding entries without first checking wiki sources, the other thread, and in-game. So if you don't see the book you posted on the list after a few days, then it is likely still reachable. If you need help locating it, please see the other thread. If this becomes a duplicate thread then ZOS will likely close it.

All of the Tales of Tribute clues must be read while they are in your inventory. If you obtain the card without reading the clue first then there appears to be no way to ever read these.

I'm pretty sure they fixed the Tribute clues in a way that all your characters can get them now. I can't remember how.

Letter from the Fighters Guild should be in the Shornhelm guild hall after the prologue quest.
Nonungalno Ritual Scroll is definitely there.

Letter from Ardaros and Y'ffre's Hymn seem to literally not exist. No one appears to have found them.

Items Needed for Curative and Keeshka's Remedy Book (both of which I'm missing) seem to be part of the public dungeon quest and only in inventory, gone after quest.
Letter from the Stirk Fellowship I'm not sure about.

Letter to my Egg-Kin I have not found yet, someone let me know if they have. Reward for Missing Steed! also seems to not be near Squire Albec like you'd think it'd be.

Letter to Zerith-var, Snapdragon's Burnt Notes, Invitation from the Gardener, and Aurelia's Letter all are related to companion quests (Tanlorin, Zerith, Isobel), and all appear to not be available after their quests. I'm sure there are others, but that's just what I know of.

I'm missing a total of ten Eidetic Memory books on one character as of the Western Solstice release. Ten. ZOS really needs to stop making books without ensuring there is definitely a post-quest location.

You were asking where to find books. The other thread already does that. If this becomes a duplicate thread ZOS will just close it.

If you check the other thread, you'll find where your missing ones are

Yeah, Dread Lady's Letter. This problem once was fixed, but appeared again 1 or 2 patches later.
The locations mentioned at UESP are not longer valid. They once were (tested it), but no more (can't find them there again).
    Both:

    Dread Lady's Letter (Daedric Cults)

I've tidied up the list to give one of 5 categories:
    • No access to location post-quest - Books that are quest related but the game world location is not accessible post-quest. Quest Name - Location Name is given in parentheses
    • Has post-quest location but cannot be read - Books in the game world but cannot be interacted with
    • Disappears after quest - Books with accessible locations but that disappear post-quest
    • Disappears from inventory after quest - Books that appear only in player inventory and have no post-quest location. Quest name is given in parentheses
    • Unknown, not found in game - For books that are in the collection but no evidence they exist in the game world

Great! But what if in cases, when people in group encounter a book, which only can be read by one and then disappears for the other? I read many postings, that people also can't read them then post-quest, even when location is accessible or they group up once more.
Like it was with two of the (lately fixed) "Naliara's Notes, day xy" from the Summerset quest "Savage Truths" or some books in Tor-Hame-Khard from the Summerset quest "Pearls Before Traitors" (don't know if these where fixed too, atm).
Or the ones from Irenicusss mentioned, i guess.

Maybe something like (just as suggestion): When grouped, only readable by one member. Post quest no more accessible. (?)

They'd fall under the "Disappears after quest" category, as it would be the same underlying cause - The quest advances and the book vanishes. Any book that happens to also disappears for solo players who do the quest. So I view it as a distinction without a difference.

What I'm hoping to achieve is some consistency from ZOS when it comes to books:

If the location is always accessible then the book should always be there, with the exception of quest books that only appear once you take the quest but then remain afterwards - which currently happens for ~95% of quest books.

If the location is not always accessible then the book should appear in a post-quest location, inlcuding books that go straight in your inventory* - which currently happens for ~90% of quest books in non-revistable locations.

*personally I think the latter should never happen, and instead the book appears by the quest giver for you to read.

    Edit: Typos

There are also a few books which exist in the world, but are not in Eidetic Memory:

Tomb of Ja'darri (S. Elsweyr main questline, The Pride of Alkosh quest, location not reachable post-quest)
Job Offer (in Senchal, similar to all other daily lead-ins)
On Behalf of the Mages Guild of all Tamriel (the scribing quest starter, at least two locations in Skingrad, not present after the quest)
Constable Seeks Deputy (multiple locations in West Weald, Another Death in Ontus quest)
    Laughing Moon's Ledger (Khenarthi's Roost)

And a few other not exactly "text" books, but more like pictures or something that can be read in the same way as other "readables":

    Indrik diagram (at Impresario)
Bench near Orsinium museum (actual readable, updating with the player's name once some collectibles are done)
Black hand print (Blackwood main questline, A Deadly Secret quest)
Recollection Map (West Weald main questline, Seeds of Suspicion quest)
Skein of Secrets (West Weald main questline, King Nantharion's Gambit quest)
Groundskeeper Gaius's Map (West Weald, The Missing Cohort quest)
Sketch from the Gardener (Tanlorin's questline, Thorns and Blossoms quest)
Blank Paper (Tanlorin's questline, Uprooted quest)

There are also a few books which exist in the world, but are not in Eidetic Memory

As they are not in Eidetic Memory it would be impossible to include all of them in the bugged list, as there may be more than you/I/others know about. Given I'm asking ZOS for consistency including only "known" ones would be hypocritical.

I feel the priority should be to have what IS listed in Eidetic Memory reachable and completeable. There have been instances of ZOS retro-actively adding to EM books that are in the game world, such as the recent additions to Elusive Manuscript.
And a few other not exactly "text" books, but more like pictures or something that can be read in the same way as other "readables"

It's a fair point, but I am wary of going down this road, as it would also include all Treasure and Survey maps, and the Psijic Order maps for consistency.

That's the point, it's the same kind, it's books which are missing in EM but some of them are not even one-and-done. Doesn't make it any less bugged. Books been popping both in AND out of EM for some reason...

Yeah, that's why I have put them separately. But then seeing as they have added the section for not even the books, but the messages from the hirelings...

FWIW: the EM is for lore and to reference texts in game. There's no real benefit for maps or images to be in there because there's no lore or perspective to be gained from them.

EDIT: ALSO, none of those; books not in EM and maps, etc. are NOT CURRENTLY BUGGED BOOKS, which is, completely railroading this thread. This isn't a thread about what SHOULD be collectable and isn't.

This isn't a comment/discussion thread, and these comments are clogging the thread.

FWIW, each end every paragraph above is utterly false.

AND, also FWIW, the latest update just pointed that out:
    Survey Reports
Survey reports that display text now have their own book collection. They should no longer be permanently marked as “uncollected” after reading them.

So yeah, to summarize, texts which currently have no EM entries ARE being added, even besides "books", therefore any of those not being in EM *should* be considered a bug.

And maps/images are (at least as of now) not being added, but definitely not "because there's no lore or perspective to be gained from them".

And these will presumably be added to the EM collection, and if they bug they will be inlcuded in my list. If you feel so strongly about adding things to the EM collection that are not currently there then feel free to start - and curate and spend your time - on your own list in your own thread. I shall however be focussing on what is known to be bugged, missing, or disappearing from the game world that is present in EM.
