Thoughts on the PC UI art style "modernization"?

    I skipped a few pages but am going to share the two things that I find somewhat annoying. First was mentioned and that is the pulsing notification icon. I have an ultrawide monitor and any change over in that corner drags my attention over. Usually that is only new messages but now that blink does it. Maybe I'll get conditioned to ignore it?
    2nd not sure if mentioned or not but now it isn't as easy to see if I still have a shield up on the health bar as it was. The colors don't contrast as well so it takes a bit longer glance.
    The rest of the stuff I'm guessing won't bother me after a couple of days playing.

    They really gotta start vetting more substantial changes with the community or something before it even makes it to pts. Because it's clear that they're already made up their minds that anything new on pts is going live, no matter how much feedback on it is negative, that feedback is primarily just for bug reports and minor adjustments.

    Someone in this thread said the point of modernization is to make the focus the content....

    I actually can't focus on the contect because the UI is so invasive that it's the only thing I can think about whenever I have to open a menu or look at anything that's not the open world. If that was the goal I don't think they're accomplishing it.

    For people that don’t like the new UI look that are on PC, I have uploaded a addon to GitHub to revert the changes. Due to the size it will not be published to esoui; that is also probably a reason the devs did not have an option to revert in the game since the goal was to trim file sizes. Unzipped folder size is roughly 1.2gigs.
    This was working perfectly yesterday, but today, I seem to be having some trouble getting all the elements to load, even after multiple reloaduis. Anyone else having this issue? Want to see if possibly another addon update may be interfering ...

    I like it
    Aside from cropping and lightening the background box behind the companion names, I much prefer this UI to the old one. Some of the changes are more subtle, like the endeavor list having more space between each one, or the colored bars for HP, Mag, and Stam not just being one solid color but transitioning from slightly darker to slightly lighter; but really like the turquoise border around the menu buttons.

    For those that loathe the changes, hope they can make it optional, though, or that the UI add-on will work well for them.

    By the time anything hits PTS (or even by the time it's first announced to us), too many man-hours have been sunk into the feature to abandon or even substantially change it.

    You'd think they'd have learned the lesson that this is a poor way to do things after Account Wide Achievements was announced, they were blindsided by the idea that only half the community wanted it, and when players came up with a variety of compromise ways to implement it, the feature was so far past the concept stage that few of them could even be considered.

    But who should be surprised that the company that's been promising for eleven years to come up with a strategy for better communication rather than just, you know, engaging with us wouldn't think to engage with us?

    ...but I do find it really annoying. Especially since it doesn't go away unless you manually delete all notifications.

    The pulsing really gets on my nerves, so I'd have to interrupt my gameplay all the time now to click it away?!
    The whole new UI is awful, but the new notification effect takes a cake for me.
    You are in the middle of heavy fight and suddenly, something in the corner is pulsating and distracts you until you click on it and delete it, but if you do it, you die... Why?!

    I'm fine with it. I neither like it nor dislike it as far as whether I prefer the old look or the new one, but if it helps to reduce the size of the game's footprint on my hard drive, then I'm in favor of the change.

    At least the Perfect Pixel addon actually makes your ui look good but this is more or less a copy of that done Badly.

    It is perfectly clear that they do what they want and don't listen to the playerbase,with so much negative comments on the PTS but htis still made it to live.

    Playerbase= healthy game making money along the way.
    Dead playerbase= Dead game.

    Game is still alive pretty much at the moment,but if they keep going with all of these changes that a lot of the playerbase don't want or need well we all know the outcome there.

    What gets me is that the graphic visuals of the website are nicer than the in game UI/login screen/etc at this point.... and it's really wild that I have to say that.

    I want to change my vote! The more I work with this, the more I actually do like it (90% anyway). Very clean, easier to see some icons. Thanks for the tip on how to turn down the brightness of the colored bars.

    Well... The game had an amazing UI for 10 years. UI that fits into the overall style of the game. New UI looks disgusting - that's all i can say. Empty and plastic, painfully similar to hundred ugly Asian mobile games... This is just my opinion.

    There are many addons with similar styles. And the most important thing is that people will continue to use these addons, because they include the functionality... But I don't use addons, I was deprived of an alternative.

    To be honest, I really don't like (not just the UI) how the game is changing, and I have (unfortunately) less and less desire to continue playing. But who cares, right?

    I like that the loading screens no longer have the weird letterboxing with the jagged fade out look. But the rest of it... I'll get used to it but was it really necessary to change.

    I would have preferred them to add some color to the quest icons so that we can better differentiate a base game zone main quest from an overall main quest and also from a DLC zone main quest.

    I though I would hate it when I looked at other people screenshots, but I actually kind of indifferent now that I looked at it in game. I'm not sure why they needed to change it, but I will get used to it without any issues.

    I don't especially love it but I don't hate it either.

    It will take a bit of getting used to and I suspect that it won't take nearly as long to get used to as most think.

    Yes it is no longer Elder Scrolls Online style - but every game in the TES line-up has a different UI - it is now more like Skyrim.

    A saving grace is that it is far easier to read things on the screen now.

    Who knows, maybe the biggest difference between people who like the new UI and people who hate it is that some care to be immersed and as such don't want anything to remind them (more than absolutely neccessary) that they're playing a game, while others don't care and just want clearly visible stats they see while killing things and pushing stores? Which is a just as valid playstyle - I really have no interest in judging people for how they play a game - but there are just different interests and demands concerning the UI.

    Which player type is more common in total when it comes to ESO? I don't know. The feedback of people I've been talking with has been almost 100% negative (and even in cases where there's not an extreme aversion it's more like being relatively okay with it - no one sees it as an improvement) - but we're all very much players focused on immersion and lore. So that's not unexpected.

    I just wish ZOS had given us an option to choose between two UI versions, maybe even make them downloadable seperately through the launcher because they take so much disc space.

    I have mixed feelings about it
    Everything is much clearer and easier to see now ,

    I also like the "new" loading screens,

    but some parts of the new UI are very lame, mostly those dark backgrounds under group members names/companions. They give me a "beta" graphics / this page is under construction feeling. They would be fine if it was a Space trading game, but not in an RPG.

Also, I just don't like this plain design that looks like a placeholder rather than an actual product. There are a lot of things in this game that need fixing, but you choose to fix (break) this instead.

    Edit: ok, turned addons off, it fits better but still looks slightly off.

    Same file size, same resolution. So little to no difference in performance.

    The original ones look so much better. The difference I see is a difference between a veterab artist (old) and an intern (new). I just don't get it.

    I wonder if they are not going to use a high paid artist anymore to make the UI and instead pawn it off on a low paid/free intern. Hard to say but the new UI just does not make any sense, outside of not reading well.

    I hate it. I want a classic interface option at the very top of the interface setting tab.
    I have no will left to help with lag until high action per minute devs play via a vpn from Asia or Oceania to NA and live stream thier experience of thier actions being declined by the server because they are out of frame.

    I worked with gimp.
    You can do layers of an image stacking together with texture and filters (you can also make subtracting layers and alpha layers) and the combination give you the complete image.
    This looks like someone removed all the layers above the base layer from the original image and that was then considered as the new finished modernized image.
    And that's why it feels unfinished to me.
